Prevention and Mitigation
2026 – 2031 Action Plan
The Canadian Council of Forest Ministers (CCFM) released a pan-Canadian strategy in June 2024 for wildland fire prevention and mitigation (CCFM Strategy).
The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) has been tasked with transforming this strategy into a practical, whole-of-society, CIFFC-led Prevention and Mitigation Action Plan. This plan is intended to support the provinces and territories who are responsible for implementing the CCFM Strategy within their respective jurisdictions.
This plan has been co-developed and endorsed by the wildland fire management agencies that CIFFC serves via CIFFC’s Prevention and Mitigation Committee (PMC), as well as by whole-of-society partners via CIFFC’s FireSmart Canada Advisory Committee (FCAC). The Action plan will run from April 2026 to March 2031.
